The mouth of the Neretva is widely considered one of the best kite spots on the Croatian Adriatic. Launch points are at Komin and Blace, roughly 14–25 minutes’ drive from Metković. The shallow sandy lagoon with flat water makes this an ideal spot for first steps on the board, while still being spacious enough for experienced kiters chasing freestyle.
The working wind is the maestral — a thermal northwesterly that blows every afternoon from May through September, strongest in July and August. Speeds typically run 10–20 knots, with 25–30 windy days per month at peak season. Shallow water and a sandy bottom mean safe conditions even on bigger-board days.
Two IKO-certified schools operate on the spot — Kiteboarding Komin – Neretva and Neretva Kiteboarding — offering beginner courses, gear rental (Slingshot, Brunotti), and day passes with beach access, shower and Wi-Fi. The season runs May through September. Beyond kitesurfing, the morning hours before the thermal kicks in are perfect for SUP.
