Summer festivals in the Neretva Valley

~5 min read

Summer in the Neretva Valley isn’t just sun and sea — it’s months of culture, music, and events that bring every town in the region to life. From June to September, there’s something new almost every week.

Metkovsko Ljeto

Metković’s main summer program runs from late June to mid-August. Parks, open-air stages, and town squares host concerts by local and regional performers, theatre productions, exhibitions, children’s workshops, and sports competitions. The program covers everything from traditional klapa singing and classical music to modern concerts and craft beer festivals.

The evening stages along the Neretva are especially popular, where music blends with the scent of the river and the sounds of a summer night.

St. Elijah’s Day — Metković City Day

The highlight of summer is the celebration of St. Elijah (July 20), Metković’s patron saint. The whole town celebrates — a traditional fair takes over the streets, concerts run on multiple stages, and the atmosphere recalls the classic Dalmatian festa. It’s the day when locals come together, and visitors become part of the community.

Ploče and Opuzen

Neighbouring towns also offer rich summer programs. Ploče’s summer brings concerts and cultural events by the sea, while Opuzen — known for its rowing tradition and tangerine groves — offers its own program with a focus on local customs and gastronomy.

Why does this matter for your stay?

If you’re planning a summer visit to the Neretva Valley, you’ll almost certainly stumble upon an event. You don’t need to plan around it — the program is rich enough that every week offers something interesting. Hotel MB and Hotel Narona are in central Metković, within walking distance of the main summer stages.
